Research Metrics Toolkit

ORCID

What

An ORCID is a unique number for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. Creating an ORCID also provides you with a public profile page where you can list your publications (known in the profile as "works") and other CV information such as education, employment etc.

Applications

Considerations

  • You need to create your ORCID yourself
  • All researchers at Western Sydney University are strongly encouraged to link their ORCID to WSU Researcher Profile
  • ORCID doesn't provide publication metrics itself but is used by many databases and systems to manage your publications
How to: Create and manage your ORCID

Create your ORCID

Populate your ORCID profile with your publications

Method 1: Link with other identifiers, such as Scopus, ResearcherID or PubMed

  1. Log in to your ORCID record
  2. Scroll down to the Works section
  3. Click Add Works and select Search and Link
  4. Select one of the options and follow the instructions on screen to import your publications. If many of your publications are indexed in Scopus, this is a good option to try.

ORCID and the ARC RMS (Research Management System)

  • Follow these instructions to export publications from your ORCID record to the ARC’s RMS, making sure to set the privacy level to Everyone or Trusted Parties. As you have manually imported the records, your name will appear as the source.

  • More information and downloadable guides are available on the ARC website.
