ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is the authority source for external identifiers. It enables individuals and organisations to track research expertise globally and without naming ambiguity.
The ORCID is a unique and persistent 16-digit number that belongs to you throughout your scholarly career. Anyone who participates in research, scholarship, or innovation can register an ORCID for themselves free of charge. You can use the same ID throughout your career - even if your name changes or you move to a different organisation, discipline, or country.
By allowing trusted organisations to add your research information to your ORCID record, you can spend more time conducting your research and less time managing it.
A Quick Tour of the ORCID Record (Vimeo, 3m2s) provides more information.
Associate your ORCID with University systems to ensure that your publications are correctly identified in our systems and linked to your profile.
Register at least two email addresses to your ORCID (e.g. your WSU email and a personal email) to ensure you are never locked out of your account if you change institutions. Make sure you verify your added email addresses.

Set the visibility of your ORCID profile to Everyone so that:
All WSU student and staff can link their ORCID login to their WSU credentials, streamlining the process of logging into ORCID.
The first time you sign in using your institutional account from ORCID, you will be asked to connect your ORCID account by signing in using your ORCID username (email address or ORCID iD) and password, and then confirm that the accounts be linked. After that, you may sign in using your ORCID credentials or any linked account.
To log in using your WesternAccount details:
Once this authority has been established on your device, you can log in to ORCID using the same credentials as you do for WSU access. If you use a different computer, you will have to do these steps again.
Ensure your ORCID is connected so you can easily share your data between your record and an increasing number of funders, publishers, data repositories, and other research workflows.
The more well-populated ORCID records there are, the more value both researchers and the community can gain from participating in ORCID.
