Did you know there is a new exhibition space at the Campbelltown Campus Library? Western Sydney University students and staff are invited to showcase their creative work related to their studies or research.

We are excited to announce the inaugural exhibition from Shannon Foster, featuring the following artworks:

  • Wiritjiribin the First Lyrebird
  • Yandelora the Land of Peace between Peoples
  • Yandelmawa the Seven Peacekeepers

Dr Shannon Foster is a D’harawal Knowledge Keeper, artist and ORALRA registered Traditional Custodian across the Sydney Basin. Shannon is a graduate of Western Sydney University where she studied a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) before going on to complete Post Graduate studies in Education at the University of Sydney. More recently, Shannon has been awarded a PhD from the University of Technology Sydney for her doctoral research studying Indigenous Storytelling and Research Methodologies with her Elders, Uncle John Foster, Aunty Frances Bodkin and members of the D’harawal Traditional Descendants and Knowledge Holders Circle.

In this recent body of work, Shannon illustrates some of the D’harawal Garuwanga Waduguda or Ancestral Lore Stories that have been central to her cultural development and research work. The series of ink and acrylic paintings have been developed in conjunction with the D’harawal Traditional Descendants and Knowledge Holders Circle over many years of engaging with the Bangawarra'o Waduguda (D'harawal Storytelling Methodology). Shannon's paintings represent just one of the ways in which the group of Elders and Knowledge Holders share D’harawal Stories, to continue cultural, Storytelling practice and ensure a future for this culturally significant body of local, Sydney knowledges.

This exhibition showcases artworks inspired by the First Nations Garden at Campbelltown and coincides with its imminent official opening.

Come and view this exhibition in person at the Campbelltown Campus Library, located near the service desk. The exhibition runs from February to March 2025. Check the Campbelltown Opening Hours for access times.
