We are excited to announce that the Library is rolling out OpenAthens - a modern, more secure system for accessing electronic resources from off campus.
What is changing?
Starting February 18, 2025, we will be transitioning to OpenAthens which means the way you sign into library resources will be changing. You probably won't notice much difference in your login process, but you'll need to update any saved links outside the library systems. OpenAthens will replace our current system, ezproxy.
What the Library is doing
· Updating all links on the Library website to reflect the change.
· Handling changes to links in Reading & Resources Lists which is accessible via vUWS.
· Managing updates in the Research Profiles and Repository.
What you need to do
· Start preparing by identifying links to Library e-Resources you have that contain the prefix ezproxy.uws.edu.au.
· Once we go live, you will need to update any links you may have to library resources in your main pages in vUWS sites, EndNote libraries, webpages, or bookmarks.
· Most personal accounts set up in Library e-Resources will be automatically updated. However, if you have accounts set up in Proquest eBook Central or EbscoHOST, you will need to initiate a process to move these over as well. · Instructions will be available from February 18 via the Library OpenAthens webpage.
Timeline
We understand that this may be big task, so while OpenAthens goes live on February 18, ezproxy will continue to run in the background for a short period. This gives you time between February and June to update your personal links. We'll provide detailed instructions on the Library OpenAthens webpage once the system is live.
